Celebrating Dyslexia Best Practice In Education ? iansyst Ltd Launches Dyslexia-Friendly Best Practice Awards For National Dyslexia Awareness Week 2008

To celebrate National Dyslexia Awareness Week (3-9 November 08) and raise awareness of the condition, dyslexia-specialists iansyst Ltd (www.iansyst.co.uk) in partnership with leading educational technology providers* are calling school Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) to nominate themselves and non-specialist teachers for its Dyslexia-Friendly Best Practice Awards.

iansyst is giving away two top prizes to reward innovative methods of awareness raising and dyslexia-friendly practice in schools. The winning SENCO will receive the latest Toshiba laptop with Microsoft Office (Education) and accompanying specialist software to help further support students in the classroom ? the total bundle is worth ?1,200 (ex-VAT)! The winning teacher will receive a ?200 voucher to spend on technology at www.dyslexic.com. Both winners will also receive a free consultancy session with one of iansyst?s expert Education Consultants in January 2009.

The software package accompanying the Toshiba laptop will consist of the latest text-to-speech software from Texthelp, interactive phonics resources from Nessy and a visual thinking and learning tool from Inspiration, which students can rely on to plan, research and complete projects successfully.

? SENCO Award: With authorisation from their Head Teacher, SENCOs simply need to write 350-400 words about their innovative ways of raising awareness of the condition to staff during the 07/08 academic year (ending July 08,) and explain how this has helped establish a dyslexia-friendly environment in their school.

? Non-specialist Teacher?s Award: The SENCO (again with authorisation from their Head Teacher) should write 350-400 words about a non-specialist teacher who has adopted an innovative way of working with dyslexic students.

Both entries should also include a paragraph on the profile of the school, for example, the number on roll, and the number of staff. To enter, please visit www.dyslexic.com/award and fill out the online form by 1st December 2008.

The winners will be contacted by 18th December 2008, and the names of the winners will be announced on iansyst?s web site at www.dyslexic.com.

Awards Rules and Regulations:

- All entries must be received by 5pm 1st December 2008.
- The winners will be informed by the 18th December 2008.
- All entries will be judged by an expert panel. Their decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- All schools must be based in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man.
- Only one entry per school per award is permitted.
- Any personal data relating to entrants will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed without the individual?s prior consent.
- Awards must be taken as stated. There will be no cash alternatives.
- These awards are not open to employees of iansyst or members of their families or household.
